Upright Citizens and some archery
I had one of the busiest weekends in a long time. I saw the Time Machine on Saturday morning with Jude… it ain’t worth it. Ugh! The whole point of having a time machine is to use it to solve your problems. This movie just used it as a means of conveyance. He went to the future and that was it. No attempts to try things over again by going back in time to right wrongs. Hell, even Bill & Ted got it right in their movies. When they were trying to break into the police station they had their future selves travel to the past to steal the keys to the station and provide diversions. In the Time Machine there’s a spot where something bad happens to a girl Guy Pierce likes, and he’s standing next to the time machine. Does he go back in time a couple of minutes to prevent it? Nope! Just runs around like a regular guy. Grr.
After that I had a wedding reception to go to for a co-worker, Wasim. Pretty fun, tasty Indian food too. Sunday morning it was archery time at the Proline Archery Lane. This was for the singles group I’m in, Social Circles. They have an indoor archery range, and we were shooting at about 25-30 feet. I hadn’t done this since Boy Scouts, so it was fun to try again. I was a pretty good shot. Later in the day they brought out balloons to hit, and those of us shooting well were given oreo cookies on our targets to try and spear. I hit mine 4 times, but always on the edge of the cookie, never in the center, so the damn thing survived my onslaught. Death to cookies! Still, very fun event.
That night I went to another Social Circles activity, we all went to see the Upright Citizens Brigade. They used to have a show on Comedy Central. It’s run in a small theater a few blocks from where I work. The lead guy is Matt Walsh, who you’ve probably seen on the Daily Show. Horatio Sans was there from SNL, and a comic from Conan O’Brien, although I forgot his name. It was really funny. Totally improv, they’d just ask for 1 word to start the show, then just go from there in an ever-increasing silly way. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the city sometime.
