Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

I went to a fantastic show on Wednesday at Irving Plaza. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was putting on a show.
The line to get in was HUGE! Seemed like over 1,000 people. When Charles and I showed up at 7 (ticket said doors open at 7:30) we thought we’d be near the front of the line. We were back around the 500 mark.
We waited outside until around 8:30 when we finally got in the building and past security. Inside the place was packed. There were seats for about 100 people, and everyone else had to cram into every bit of free space available behind that and on a balcony. Charles and I managed to worm our way to an aisle, the first people standing behind the seats. Great for us, sucky for people behind us (I’m 6′5″!).
The show started out with the guitarist from the Conan O’Brien show doing a few tunes. The show started really really late, like 9pm or something. Then Triumph came out and started up with his Underage Bichou song. He brought out a bunch of guests over the evening: Kurt Loder, the guy who played “Big Pussy” on the Sopranos, then some really strange guests. He introduced the annoying kid from those Dell commercials “Dude, you’re gettin’ a Dell!”. After him he brought out Jared from freakin’ Subway! Triumph explained that other than standing and talking Jared had a special talent, he could walk to music! So he made Jared walk around to music for a while.
There were some more standup, more songs, then Triumph showed the bit from TV Funhouse where he was with Robert Goulet. Then he brought out “Gooooolet”, which was Will Farrell from Saturday Night Live dressed up as Goulet. Will sang “Papa Don’t Preach” while impersonating Goulet. Horatio Sans came out as a karate guy later with Will.
It was a pretty fantastic show, a little over 2 hours long. Triumph is always entertaining. Hopefully he’ll do another show sometime, so keep your eyes open.
This was a fine post… FOR ME TO POOP ON!
