So I’m slumbering away last night, when at 2 AM the damn phone rings. I hear the answering machine pickup, it’s a fax. 2:15 AM, the f$cking fax calls again! I’ve had this fax calling me off and on for a few days now, but usually when I’m not home.

It was time to fight back.

First I tried to *69 the call, but no luck. They had the line blocked. Another thing I could have done was to try and hook up a fax modem on a computer to receive the fax, then get the return phone number off the footer. Then I remember that I don’t have a fax modem on me, just my DSL modem & a regular modem w/o fax capabilities.

Next idea… I’ve heard people talk about setting up their answering machines with the disconnected tones. A quick search on Google led me to a web site that had a wave file of the proper tones. So, 2:30 AM I make a new sound file with the proper tones, and then the intro to the M1A1 song from the Gorillaz. I transferred that to the iPod so I could get it close enough to the answering machine’s mike. A couple runs and I’m all set. The fax calls again, and hangs up after hearing my message!!!

I don’t know if the fax will give up or if this is a temporary victory, but it’s a victory all the same!
