New design

With Movable Type changing to a paid license, I decided to switch my blog software to WordPress, a completely free, open-source blog software package. After that I spent a lot of time playing around with the CSS, as this design is almost completely laid out in CSS without using html tables. Pretty spiffy!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Chris and Corinne

So my sister Corinne came out to visit me last week.  She stayed over my birthday, it was a lot of fun!  On my birthday itself we went to hit Coney Island.  The Cyclone was running, and amazingly enough no one was on it!  So we were able to hop on and ride it a couple of times in the front row, with no one else on the coaster!

For dinner we went to Nobu.  It was the best meal of my life! And this is from a guy who’s lived in New York City for almost 8 years.  We started out with jalapeno yellowtail, followed by a couple of rock shrimp dishes (the tempura was divine!).  We had soft shell crab spring rolls, and the house dish, black cod.  It’d cod, marinated in miso, the broiled.  HHooooo man it was good!

We were lucky our waitress was so helpful.  We almost made a rookie mistake and just ordered the sushi, but she steered us to the good stuff.  So if you ever go to Nobu, while the sushi is great, it’s everything else there that’s amazing.

On the way out we saw Chris Kattan from Saturday Night Live and Neal Patrick Harris, Doogie Howser.  Ed Burns was walking his dog outside the restaurant.

I’ve posted a bunch of new pictures too, check them out here.

Go Go Godzilla!

Godzilla

There’s an amazing new re-release of the original Godzilla movie. It’s the original Japanese edit. No Raymond Burr, no dubbing, just the original film. I was shocked at how dark the movie was. There were lots of scenes changed or restored.

For example, as Godzilla attacks, commuters talk about how tired they are of evacuating the city. One woman says she escaped Nagasaki, and right after Godzilla picks up the train and bites it. In another scene a woman is huddled with her two children on the street and says “we’ll be with daddy soon” right before Godzilla stomps them.

This is a much darker movie, and a much BETTER movie. I loved it! Can’t wait for this edit on DVD. If you’re in New York you can catch it at the Film Forum until the 20th of May. Check the Rialto page for showtimes to see when it’ll hit a city near you.
